Highlights from recomine-status meeting in Muldenhütten
The recomine status meeting 2024 took place on August 22 at the historic “E-Zentrale” of Ecobat Resources GmbH in Muldenhütten. This time, the focus was on the social results and challenges in recomine. In addition to a presentation by host Dr. Martin Fischer on battery recycling on site, participants were able to learn a lot about the history, the eternal task of remediation, the integration into the Unesco World Heritage Site and the future of one of recomine development sites from Prof. Helmuth Albrecht (IWTG, TU Bergakademie Freiberg) and Sabine Meissner (SAXONIA Standortverwaltungs- und -Verwahrungsgesellschaft mbH). After a pitch session on social activities from the recomine projects and lunch, a new format was successfully tried out this time. Dr. Diana Ayeh and Henriette Rutjes from the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) had brought along and moderated an interactive simulation game in which all participants could slip into different roles. In a fictitious planning process for a new mine, the participants were able to play their role and understand how difficult fair decision-making processes are in reality. The event was rounded off with two guided tours of the Ecobat Resources GmbH site and the old smelter's hat house. Many thanks to everyone involved and to the guests, who were able to empathize with their roles very well.
