Highlights of the status meeting in Muldenhütten
The recomine status meeting 2024 took place on August 22, 2024 in the historic “E-Zentrale” of Ecobat Resorces GmbH in Muldenhütten. This time, the focus was on the social results and challenges in recomine. In addition to a presentation by our host Dr. Martin Fischeron battery recycling on site, the participants were able to hear from Prof. Helmuth Albrecht (IWTG, TU Bergakademie Freiberg) and Sabine Meissner (SAXONIA Standortverwaltungs- und -Verwahrungsgesellschaft mbH) about the history, the eternal task of redevelopment, the integration into the Unesco World Heritage Site and the future of the recomine development sites. After a pitch session on social activities from the recomine projects and lunch, a new format was successfully tried out this time. Dr. Diana Ayeh and Dr. Henriette Rutjes from the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research (UFZ) had brought along and moderated an interactive simulation game for us, in which all participants were able to slip into different roles. In a fictitious planning process for a new mine, the participants were able to play their role and understand how difficult fair decision-making processes are in reality. The event was rounded off with two guided tours of the Ecobat Resources GmbH site and the old smelter’s hat house. Many thanks to everyone involved and to our guests, who were able to empathize with their roles very well.
