Highlights of the 3rd workshop of the recomine SN-CZ-Plus project on June 3 and 4, 2025, in Zinnwald

11.06.2025

The third workshop of the EU Interreg cooperation project “recomine SN-CZ-Plus”(100704154) with the title “Phyto- and biogeochemistry” took place on June 3 and 4, 2025 at the Hotel Lugsteinhof in Zinnwald took place. We would like to thank our colleagues from Czech Geological Survey and the Helmholtz Center Dresden-Rossendorf. At the workshop, participants were given an introduction to geobotany and phytogeochemistry. Various methods for processing the plant material were then presented, including analytical, mathematical and statistical methods. Dr. Vojtěch Wertich from the Czech Geological Survey also presented the case study of the EU project SEMACRET and gave an insight into the history, land use, geology, the current situation and the new exploration at the project’s key site in the Czech Republic, Staré Ransko. The sampling on site and the exploration from the air were presented to the audience. Dr. Pospiech also presented the results of the case study of the EU project SEMACRET as well as the challenges and opportunities of applying biogeochemical methods.

On the second day, all participants had the opportunity to take samples of the plant material under expert guidance, which will be further analyzed as part of the EU project DeepBEAT– the follow-up project to the EU project SEMACRET– for lithium content.

Special thanks for the workshop and the excursion goes to Dr. Solveig Pospiech from the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf.

We would like to thank you for the in-depth discussions during the workshop and look forward to the fourth workshop in Kovářská on September 23 and 24, 2025 on the topic of “Critical raw materials and material recycling”.
