Technology development and testing for sustainable water management and additive raw material extraction at the pilot location…

Time span

From 01.04.2021 to 31.03.2024

Abbreviation

Project type

Sustainable Water Management

The objective of the joint project is the further development and on-site testing of processes for cleaning the water escaping from the Ehrenfriedersdorf tin ore mine, particularly with regard to arsenic. The aim is to ensure that this has hardly any negative environmental impact in the future in order to contribute to the economic and social development of the region. In particular, the project also aims to demonstrate that the effects of mining on water quality can be avoided at reasonable cost using state-of-the-art water treatment processes and an intelligent water management system, even for critical pollutants such as arsenic.

The main objectives of the joint project are the further development of efficient active and passive process approaches for the separation/fixation of pollutants as well as for the extraction of raw materials, the testing of chemical in-situ immobilization and the evaluation of the chemical stability of the immobilizates produced. Furthermore, extensive hydrochemical monitoring is planned, on the basis of which systems for automated in-situ monitoring of the arsenic concentration in the mine water and AI-based control of the water treatment modules are to be developed. The technical objective is to adapt the processes at demonstrator level to the local conditions in such a way that a reduction of up to 90% in arsenic and other water pollutants can be achieved.
